American High School Students Are Staging Walkouts to Protest Trump

Students from several downtown Los Angeles high schools marched to city hall Wednesday morning to protest the election of Donald Trump. "School and district administrators took steps to monitor the noon protests so that our students were safe and able to express their opinions".

Smaller groups of students walked out of classes in nearby Oakland and Seattle, while several hundred students at the University of Texas protested as well, according to local reports.

A student from Boulder's Fairview High said students at that school plan a similar walkout at 1:30 p.m. today.

The high school students who organized the march say they're not here to criticize their next president.

Students also walked out of two high schools in Oakland, a high school in Boulder, Colorado and a high school in Phoenix, Arizona. "I don't have the ability to say stop, and I'm not sure that I would". "But students need to know any work they miss because of the protests, it is on them to make it up".

In a video captured on Twitter, a sea of students was filmed yelling things in protest like "Not our President", and "Si, se puede", which translates to "Yes, we can".

Many of those protesting said despite Trump's victory, they have their eyes on the future.

Arpaio was defeated by Democrat Paul Penzone after 24 years in office.

The district is not making changes to the school day, with classes and schedules continuing as normal, Roeder said.
