Mexico president talks with Trump as faces populist pressure at home

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said on Monday his government is prepared to negotiate with President Donald Trump if Mexico's national sovereignty is respected.

In a key foreign policy speech, Pena Nieto underlined the importance of open dialogue and negotiation with new U.S. President Donald Trump's administration.

On Saturday, Mexicans, many with relatives in the United States, queued for hours outside a bank located in an appliance store in Ixmiquilpan's town center. Trump called his surprise visit to Mexico City a 'great honor.' A week later one of Nieto's closest advisers and confidants, Finance Secretary Luis Videgaray, resigned in a move seen as linked to the unpopular decision to invite Trump to visit Mexico.
