Warner Bros Unveils Their New Shared Universe With The Surprise 'Ninjago' Movie

If there's anyone who can give a beloved character a true rejiggering, it's Grahame-Smith, working within the Batman canon and the larger Warner Bros. universe. Mixing simple visual gags with clever writing (the opening scene takes place on "McGuffin Arlines"), Chris McKay's film makes affectionate digs at movies including Suicide Squad, the previous Batman films and Iron Man, the result being closer to Airplane than anything by, say, Pixar.

As the plot thickens, the solitary superhero overinflated with ego, is joined by his adopted son, Boy Wonder (Robin) and new Gotham City police commissioner, who later becomes Bat Girl.

A host of comedy writers contributed to the screenplay as well, so the jokes are densely packed and fast and furious. He plays Bruce Wayne/Batman as the arrogant playboy he always has been, but the film reveals his vulnerabilities and loneliness more starkly. Starring the vocal talents of Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis, and Rosario Dawson, the movie pits the LEGO versions of the Dark Knight and the Joker against each other while providing plenty of laughs for both kids and adults and blockheads in between. What's different is that this time, Batman actually accepts them into his world.
