Verdict Reached in Deadly Meningitis Outbreak Trial

Cadden, the former president of the New England Compounding Center, faced almost 100 charges, including second-degree murder for the deaths of 64 people during the NECC meningitis outbreak.

But the jury did find Barry Cadden guilty on multiple racketeering and mail fraud counts. Federal prosecutors in 2014 charged Cadden and twelve others, alleging that drugs distributed by the pharmacy contained expired, untested ingredients and that officials mass produced drugs for fictitious patients.

During the case, prosecutors portrayed Cadden as someone who cut corners and failed to follow industry regulations for cleanliness and sterility.

Trump stands by claims Obama tapped his phones, despite denial by GCHQ
The Republican president offered no evidence for the allegation, which an Obama spokesman said was "simply false". Mr Spicer claimed Mr Obama was "able to get transcripts of conversations involving President-elect Trump".

A jury in Tennessee has found the owner of a MA lab that sold contaminated steroids not guilty of second degree murder.

"As disgusting as each of these stories is, there is nothing that shows that Mr. Cadden did something that the government can link to the death of that person", attorney Bruce Singal told the jury.

Cadden, 50, will be released on bail while awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for June 21. In 2013, in reaction to the outbreak, Congress increased federal oversight of such pharmacies.

Cadden's lawyers said he was not responsible for the deaths.

Of the other defendants, who faced lesser charges, three have pleaded guilty, while a judge dismissed charges against two pharmacists in October.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the compounding center used fictional and celebrity names on fake prescriptions to dispense drugs, such as "Michael Jackson", "Freddie Mae" and "Diana Ross". "At the same time, it is Barry's fervent wish. that people still remember the victims of this awful public health outbreak".
