Australia mulls shark cull after teenage surfer's death

Laeticia Brouwer, 17, was fatally attacked by a shark on Monday while surfing in Western Australia (WA).

The teenager was mauled by a shark off Kelp Beds, 3km east of Wylie Bay in Esperance, while she was surfing with her father on Monday afternoon. They were "not a long way off-shore" when the attack occurred, The Australian reported. She was also with her mother and two sisters who were watching them at the beach.

Paramedics said Brouwer's injuries and blood loss were too severe for her to survive.

"The ocean was her and her family's passion".

Spain rescues 125 migrants crossing sea at night
Italian Coast Guard organised a rescue operation over Easter weekend to save those spilling off crowded boats and stranded at sea. Video footage showed rescuers jumping into the water off the coast of Libya to help them.

"We had, and in opposition we retain, a policy of putting drum lines out to inhibit a shark that has attacked someone from doing so again", he said. "The father obviously tried everything he could to help his daughter, but sadly, he wasn't able to save her". Surfing was something that she treasured doing with her dad and her sisters.

Medics attended to Brouwer on the beach, but she didn't respond to efforts.

Organiser of the fundraiser Brad Pleiter wrote that while Laeticia's family is "comforted by the knowledge that Laeticia is now at peace with her Lord and Saviour" they are still devastated by the huge loss.

Laeticia was then taken to Esperance Hospital in a critical condition, where she died shortly after.

Chris Sutton believes Arsenal must replace Arsene Wenger
Hopefully we haven't been dragged straight back into it, but judging on that performance tonight, it looks like we have. It's a big worry. "I have managed over 1100 games for Arsenal Football Club and we are not used to losing like that".

Officials have closed Wylie Bay beach until further notice and people have been urged to stay out of the water.

He said the previous Australian government's attempts to deploy drum line traps did not reduce the likelihood of future attacks.

Experts who have studied Laeticia's surfboard say the damage shows all the sign of a great white shark attack, and fishermen are claiming the legally protected species are now "breeding like flies" off the coastline.

Australia ranks behind only the United States in the number of unprovoked shark encounters with humans past year, the International Shark Attack File of the University of Florida shows.

Kim Kardashian was reported by his side during his stay at the hospital, but she was overcoming her own dramatic experience. Superstar musicians Kanye West and John Legend recently collaborated on a project that had nothing to do with music.
