Gianfranco Zola has resigned as Birmingham City manager after a disastrous four-month spell in charge of the Championship club.
The 50-year-old Italian was appointed in December after the controversial sacking of Gary Rowett, but has overseen just two wins in 22 league games.
The last game of his tenure was Monday's 2-0 home defeat by Burton, which left Blues 20th in the table and three points above the relegation zone with three league matches to play.
Chris Sutton believes Arsenal must replace Arsene Wenger
Hopefully we haven't been dragged straight back into it, but judging on that performance tonight, it looks like we have. It's a big worry. "I have managed over 1100 games for Arsenal Football Club and we are not used to losing like that".
Zola, whose dazzling playing career has not been replicated as a manager, did not shirk his responsibility as he fronted up to the media post-match and accepted he had failed.
"I am sorry because I came here with a lot of expectations and the results haven't been good".
"I made a decision to give in my resignation".
Jurgen Klopp tells Trent Alexander-Arnold he needs to improve defensively
When asked on the matter, the manager replied: "There's no announcement to do at this moment... but what I can say probably is... yes".
"And if I'm incorrect I am going to pay the results, without doubt about that".
"It is not that I like quitting, but Birmingham deserves better". If I can not help the team, it is better I leave and let someone else do that. I'm one hundred per cent certain that by this work, we are going to get the outcomes. "If I feel like I can not help these players why stay - it's better that I leave and let somebody else do that".
The 50-year-old has endured a terrible spell as the Blues manager, winning just two out of 20 league games in charge.
