FBI Reportedly Monitored Trump Campaign Adviser For Russia Contacts

The Trump campaign team has said Page's role in the campaign was "informal". Page, the managing partner of Global Energy Partners, an energy consulting firm, would join the campaign as an adviser several months later. Trump aides insist the president has no relationship with Page and did not have any dealings with him during the campaign. The former Merrill Lynch banker, who has an office in a building next to Trump Tower, has refused to discuss the matter publicly. "This is just such a joke that it is beyond words", he told CNN's Jake Tapper. Others included former campaign chief Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn and longtime Trump confidante Roger Stone.

"Something may have come up in a conversation", Page told ABC's "Good Morning America" anchor George Stephanopoulos. "I can assure you of that".

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russian Federation and the campaign, the Washington Post reported yesterday, citing law enforcement and other U.S. officials. Such contacts are now at the center of an investigation into whether the campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in Trump's favor. Sessions had not disclosed the meeting in the hearing, and after a firestorm of controversy, Sessions eventually announced that he would recuse himself from investigations into connections between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

He said he was never on the campaign payroll. "We shall see", Page said. He's given speeches in Moscow critical of American foreign policy. Asked how many times he met with candidate Donald Trump, he said, "I have not met one on one or in any small group with Mr. Trump". A message left with Avenue Strategies, his new lobbying firm, was not returned. "I have no concerns", Page said. "I have no recollection".

A White House official told NBC News that they believe the FISA warrant news seems to validate allegations made by the administration that there was surveillance taking place on Trump allies. Those men were all much closer to Trump than Carter Page was.

The unverified dossier compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele claimed that Page, who has long advocated for a closer relationship between the US and Russian Federation, had ties to the Kremlin.

A former Trump campaign adviser says he was targeted by the Obama administration because he was a "dissident".

The accusations of collusion between Page and Russian Federation have been denied publically many times.

When Page arrived in Moscow on July 4, 2016 as a "private individual" to give a lecture at the School of Economics, the timing strangely coincided with the annual Gazprom meeting, which takes place in Moscow in the beginning of July. While in the Russian capital, Page met Russia's deputy prime minister, Arkady Dvorkovich. Carter Page refers to the collection of Federal Bureau of Investigation evidence as a "dodgy dossier", and said all of his visits to Russian Federation were as a private citizen.

ENTOUS:.That somebody was an agent and then it turned out to be completely wrong. BuzzFeed News first reported the affidavit earlier this month.

"That would be ridiculous", said Page.

That's according to documents newly obtained by The Associated Press.

It's premature to say whether the Justice Department investigation will uncover illegal activity. The final step before going to court is the approval of a high-ranking intelligence official of the organization seeking the warrant.

Some investigators, particularly House Republicans, are also keenly interested in leaks of classified information about ties between Trump's team and Moscow.
