Donald Trump Slams James Comey After Firing Him: He's A 'Showboat' & 'Grandstander'

Days before he was sacked by Donald Trump, FBI Director James Comey requested more resources to pursue his investigation into Russia's election meddling and the possible involvement of Trump associates, USA officials say, fueling concerns that Trump was trying to undermine a probe that could threaten his presidency.

However, the revelation intensified the pressure on the White House from both political parties to explain the motives behind Mr Comey's stunning ouster.

"However, President Trump's actions cost us an opportunity to get at the truth, at least for today".

Thursday's hearing was scheduled to address global security threats, but there were frequent questions about Comey and the FBI's Russian Federation probe. Republican leaders brushed off the idea as unnecessary.

Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had wanted a heads-up from Comey about what he would say at a May 3 hearing about his handling of an investigation into former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server.

Mr Trump's firing of Mr Comey on Tuesday has led Democrats and others to raise concerns about the future of the investigation. "In one case I called him, and in once case he called me". On NBC's "Today", Sanders said she would defer to the president himself for any additional details. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, with the support of the White House, brushed aside those calls, saying a new investigation would only "impede the current work being done".

McCabe is certain to face questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday on the status of the bureau and its high-profile probe into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

Comey's responds, according to Trump: "You are not under investigation".

Gorelick, former deputy attorney general under Bill Clinton, was rumored to be Hillary Clinton's pick for AG.

But Rosenstein's own role in Comey's firing became increasingly murky Wednesday.

And really, are the American people supposed to feel confident in Comey's firing because Hillary Clinton loyalist Jamie Gorelick criticized him past year in a newspaper op-ed?

He then demanded answers from Rosenstein by Monday to a series of questions.

New front to seize Iraq's Mosul from IS
The fight for Mosul's west has been slow and deadly to Iraqi forces and civilians caught in the crossfire. Mattis made it clear that USA involvement will not end when Mosul is finally captured from IS.

Asked by reporters why he fired Comey, Trump said, "He wasn't doing a good job, very simply".

He also said he would not inform the White House about developments in the probe. Rosenstein was tasked with justifying it, and his effort to do so is paper-thin.

White House and other US officials insisted on anonymity to disclose private conversations. "I was going to fire regardless of recommendation".

"I can tell you also that Director Comey enjoyed broad support within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and still does to his day", McCabe testified, calling it the "greatest privilege and honor of his professional life to work with Comey".

A White House spokeswoman on Wednesday dismissed the idea that Trump had tried to intimidate the FBI investigators, attorneys or others involved in its counterintelligence investigation.
