"Game of Thrones" spin-offs in the works at HBO

HBO announced in a statement that it was developing scripts to spin off the series that will "explore different time periods of George R.R. Martin's vast and rich universe".

As far as what form these new stories will take, we don't have any clues yet except that they do not now have a direct connection to the current material, but will "explore different time periods of George R.R. Martin's vast and rich universe".

It is not clear whether the show will be a prequel or a sequal to the hit television series.
