Magnitude-6.2 earthquake rattles corner of Canada, Alaska

A magnitude 6.2 quake hit Yukon and Alaska at about 5:30 a.m. local time today, causing power outages and shaking people awake.

Natural Resources Canada says the first quake struck around 5:30 a.m.

A strong quake struck Southeast Alaska near its border with Canada's Yukon Territory on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, followed by a series of minor seismic events in the sparsely populated area.
