Mother of 3 killed by gunman at pool party

According to reports, Selis opened fire at the people at La Jolla Crossroads Apartments, killing one woman and injuring six others before being shot dead by police. Another man was taken to the hospital after he broke his arm running away.

One of the seven shooting victims at a San Diego pool party said he's grateful to a security guard who hustled him and others to ambulances.

"What started as a celebration of a friend's birthday turned into a tragedy of epic proportions for all those in attendance".

Police released the information late Monday after previously saying all the victims were black or Latino. Two victims are in critical condition but all are expected to survive, Zimmerman said Monday.

"The reason why people are speculating a hate crime in the community is because this is a 49-year-old white male, who walks into a pool area, a gathering with mostly black people, in a mostly white community in San Diego", said the Rev. Shane Harris of the San Diego chapter of the National Action Network, a civil rights organization.

SDPD's helicopter arrived on the scene and found that the shooter was still in the pool area and appeared to be reloading.

Trump Says Considering Breaking Up Wall Street Banks
While campaigning for president, Trump had expressed support on the campaign trail for a "21st-century Glass-Steagall". The selloff was short lived, however, with bank shares recovering within minutes.

The police chief also said there is no indication that the shooting was racially motivated and that they believe the victims were chosen at random. A black woman was reported to have died.

One of the shooter's neighbors, who requested anonymity, told 10 News that Selis' daughters told her alcohol abuse and depression likely played roles in the rampage.

Another reads, "RIP to my cousin Monique Clark who was the victim of the senseless act of violence at a San Diego pool party yesterday".

"It was very eerie, to say the least", Griffin said.

Zimmerman said that at some point after the first gunshots, Selis laid down on a lounge chair, took out his cellphone and called his ex-girlfriend to tell her what was happening.

Police ruled out racism as a motive; "these victims were just at the wrong place at the wrong time", said Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman.

He reportedly continued shooting till he ran out of bullets. Police shot and killed him around 6:13 p.m. when he pointed a gun at officers, according to NBC San Diego. One person was shot in the chest and a second has a broken wrist, a broken hand and a concussion from climbing a fence during the shooting. Zimmerman said Selis wanted his ex girlfriend to keep listening as he kept firing, perhaps in anticipation of his ultimate demise and death.

Arriving officers located the suspect in the pool area.

"That guy saved us a lot of time, getting us to the fire department in a safe zone, and getting us over here", Blea said.

In a 2015 bankruptcy filing, Selis listed more than $108,000 in debt he owed to creditors.

White flowers and a wreath were left outside the apartment complex's pool area Tuesday, two days after the mass shooting.
