Boeing wins Paris order title as Airbus's Leahy announces retirement

In the last decade, oil drillers, and particularly those who drill complex "horizontal" wells on shale-oil fields in the US, have been among heavy manufacturers' largest customers.

The U.S. aerospace giant said it received "incremental orders and commitments" during the week for a total of 571 airplanes, valued at $74.8 billion at list prices.

The move is aimed at helping Boeing compete with Europe's Airbus SE. Airbus, which has been talking with airlines for years about improvements to the aircraft to take advantage of the latest cost-saving technologies, slowed down production of the aircraft in 2016.

Most of the orders were for smaller, single-aisle jets: Boeing's 737 and Airbus' A320neo.

While new civilian aircraft orders will probably fall short of the $130bn the Paris show clocked up last time - mostly thanks to airlines ordering the latest fuel-efficient Boeing and Airbus aircraft - the industry is still optimistic about sustained growth.

He said Clark was interested in the updates Airbus is proposing - including the ability to add 80 seats without reducing comfort and greater fuel economy - that will make the plane cheaper to operate for airlines. The company expects to have the jet in service in 2020.

"The 737 MAX will complement our growing fleet and is the flawless aircraft for short to medium-haul operations across the Sahel region and Europe, feeding traffic into our hub airport at Nouakchott", said Mohamed Radhi Bennahi, chief executive officer, Mauritania Airlines.

The world's third-largest lessor Avolon ordered $8.4 billion worth of Boeing models.

"In fact, frankly, we look at the demand for really big airplanes and we find it hard to believe that Airbus will be able to deliver the rest of their A380s in backlog", Marketing Vice-President Randy Tinseth said in a briefing. "We think the 737 MAX 10 is a competitor to the (MAX) 9 and that's why a lot of people are converting", said Airbus sales chief John Leahy. "They're clearly going to come after us on price". Yes it is. Are we conceding that Boeing sold a few more aeroplanes than we did? I'm sorry, but you can't do it.

Uber adds option to tip drivers as it heads in new direction
Uber said more cities will be added to the system in the next few weeks, and that it expected a full roll-out by the end of July . Kalanick, who is grieving the loss of his mother, has also said he is working on a new style of leadership during his absence.

Orders and commitments for airliners at the Paris Air Show on Wednesday finally began to taper, but given the pace at which sales had accumulated during the first two days of the show, a slowdown seemed inevitable.
