Cavs owner, Billups meet about front-office job

A year ago, David Griffin was celebrating the Cleveland Cavaliers' first championship and the city's first title since 1964.

In a release issued by the team and attributed to team owner Dan Gilbert, it said that the team and Griffin "mutually decided not to extend David's current contract, which ends June 30, 2017".

Gilbert added that there would be "no announcement at this time related to new leadership of the Cavaliers basketball operations group".

Two Capitol Police officers, identified as special agents David Bailey and Crystal Griner, were wounded while protecting Scalise. Roger Williams - a fellow Texan - offered Brady the chance to take some grounders at second base as the team's back up.

Dan Gilbert is reportedly targeting Chauncey Billups to take over the role as Cavs GM.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported Monday that "Gilbert didn't consult" with James before firing Griffin, and the network's Ryen Russillo claimed that a source told him James's camp was "surprised" by the ouster. McMenamin reported assistant GM Koby Altman is now handling trade phone calls for the Cavs. Gilbert is also "very engaged" in the Cavs' business right now as they prepare for the draft and field potential trade opportunities, according to the source. LeBron James was not involved in the decision-making.

James previously endorsed Griffin during an interview with ESPN in April, saying the GM deserved a new deal.

Chauncey Billups and the Cleveland Cavaliers have mutual interest in a front-office role for the retired National Basketball Association player, sources told ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

The Cavaliers have been looking to make some major moves in the offseason to compete with the Golden State Warriors out of the West, and it's nearly as if they're looking to rebuild. So we wouldn't be in this position, obviously, without him and without the guys that are here - from the coaching staff to the players to Griff.
