Errant fire from Syria lands in Golan for 2nd day

The Israeli army says several projectiles fired from Syria have landed in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights for a second consecutive day.

The black and white IDF video shows one strike targeting a heavy machine gun and two strikes against two separate Syrian military tanks taking their positions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday threatened to respond "powerfully" to any spillover of fire from Syria. The former military official Yaalon last month told reporters that the Islamic State group had also recently apologized to Israeli military forces after unintentionally attacking them along the Syrian border.

Israel has targeted Syria several times during the conflict, sometimes after projectiles have landed in the Golan Heights, but also to hit weapons supplies of Lebanon's Hezbollah group, which is fighting alongside the Syrian government.

"The [Syrian] army repelled a massive al-Nusra Front attack on the city of Baath in the Quneitra province [bordering the Golan Heights]".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors events in the war-torn country, said Israeli forces had fired missiles causing casualties among regime troops and loyal militias.

The military described the shellfire into the Israeli-held territory as errant fire and called it an "unacceptable breach" of sovereignty.

Around 510 square km of the Golan are under Syrian control.

Syria and Israel are still technically at war.

The minister claimed that the IDF's response was determined and so will any future response be if incidents of spillover fire repeat: "We respond with force, determination and discretion to every such incident".
