Global reaction pours in as Trump nears climate deal decision

President Trump is nearing a decision on whether to formally withdraw the US from the Paris climate agreement - a landmark deal in which almost every country volunteered to curb its greenhouse gas emissions in an effort to limit global warming.

Today, news broke about President Trump's plans to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.

Trump's tweet came amid multiple news reports that said Trump is expected to pull the US out of the agreement.

ABC News reported that one official cautioned that no decision is final until Trump announces it himself. The 196 remaining signatories must strengthen their resolve in order to send a signal to President Trump that he stands alone on the issue of climate change.

The 2015 accord united most of the world in a single agreement to mitigate climate change for the first time.

"We have some good business minds, and if anyone's going to lead the charge in finding a solution that mitigates climate change while preserving our global economy, I think the United States needs to be at the head of that table, not just at that table", he said on KSL Newsradio's "The Doug Wright Show".

President Donald Trump tweeted on Wednesday that he will announce decision on the Paris Agreement "over the next few days".

Three months ago, 17 House Republicans introduced a resolution attempting to steer debate away from whether climate change is real, and promising to do something about greenhouse gas emissions.

The market reaction reflects concerns, raised by some coal companies in recent months, that a USA exit from the Paris Climate Agreement could unleash a global backlash against coal interests outside the United States.

Trump could decide as early as this week whether the United States will remain in the historic Paris Agreement, which reflects a voluntary commitment by the world's governments to reduce their carbon emissions.

However, early reports and White House official sources cited by the media yesterday believe that Trump has already made a decision to withdraw the USA from the agreement, signed by all countries in late 2015 except Syria and Nicaragua.
