Men hailed as heroes for holding murderous fugitives at gunpoint

Two inmates accused of shooting to death a pair of armed guards during an escape from a prison bus in Georgia were captured Thursday night in Tennessee, authorities said. Dubose and Donnie Russell Rowe escaped after killing two prison guards during a bus transport in Georgia.

Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose were captured after a foot chase ended in Rutherford County Thursday evening.

"I can not tell you how grateful I was to see them arrive", Hale said.

"At that point, I realized that I had two ex-cons wanted for murder that had just shot at law enforcement and nothing to lose", Hale said.

In Georgia, Sills told reporters no one was wounded and the inmates gave up after about 15 minutes in the trees beside Interstate 24. The men held them at gunpoint with the help of a neighbor until the sheriff's department arrived to take them into custody.

Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose were apprehended in the rural community of Christiana, Tennessee, ending a multi-state manhunt that began Tuesday morning.

The last woman to win her first tour-level title at a major was Barbara Jordan at the 1979 Australian Open. Halep added: "She only has one game, either I can't touch it or it flies one metre out".

"I'm happy. I'm elated, but I'm still tremendously sad about these (deceased) officers", Sills said about the capture. Police believed the suspects then stole a second auto in Morgan County, Georgia, near a home where they were believed to have broken into to change clothes, authorities said Wednesday.

As word of the inmates' escape spread, photos of the two men emerged on social media.

The inmates allegedly went to another home to try to steal a vehicle there, but the homeowner held the suspects at gunpoint, said Bill Miller, spokesman for the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

It was the first of four cars they stole on the run, authorities said.

Deputies spotted the auto and chased it for 20 miles (32 kilometers) at high-speed, Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Bill Miller said.

They entered the driver's compartment, overpowered and then disarmed Officers Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue while the bus was on State Route 16 near Eatonton, some 70 miles southeast of Atlanta, police said.

Rutherford County Sheriff Michael Fitzhugh said the suspects fired shots, striking several cruisers, but his deputies weren't hit and didn't return fire to avoid endangering other motorists.

The inmates were caught following a auto chase in Tennessee, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal said on Twitter.

"True bravery is what's caused us to stand before you tonight to talk about a successful capture instead of a tragic end", Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn said.

Monica and Billue were transfer sergeants at Baldwin State Prison.

Dubose and Rowe quietly crossed state lines between Wednesday and Thursday before they ditched the stolen truck in Moore County, Tennessee.

"Both officers were known for their unwavering commitment to their job and their love of family", the Georgia Department of Corrections said in a statement.
