South Korean Official Suspended Over US Missile Defense Report

Chung Eui-yong, head of the National Security Office of the Blue House, addressed the latest controversy surrounding the US deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or Thaad system.

Moon, a liberal, is now working with Cabinet members who were appointed by his conservative predecessor, Park Geun-hye, who was ousted from office in March over a corruption scandal.

The meeting came one day after Moon, who took office on May 10, ordered a probe into an "undisclosed" delivery of four additional THAAD launchers.

President Moon emphasized the interrogation is a domestic measure to secure procedural legitimacy regarding the THAAD installation, allaying concerns that the new government is moving to reverse the previous administration's decision to deploy the US antimissile battery.

The remarks were Moon's first clear indication that he does not intend to stop the deployment, which has drawn angry protests from China, South Korea's biggest trading partner.

He says the committee will be "following up with subpoenas" to maximize the chances of getting information from Flynn. Mr Flynn, a retired general, is a key witness in the Russian Federation investigations because of his ties to Moscow.

Deputy Minister for Defense Policy Wee Seung-ho will be excluded from duty for his part in withholding THAAD-related information from the presidential office, Cheong Wa Dae announced Monday.

Durbin added, "I said several times that protecting USA forces in Korea is important to me".

The four North Koreans were found on two vessels on Friday and Saturday by the South Korean navy, the ministry said.

Yoon said Wee instead initially planned to verbally report about the four launchers but didn't do so.

The THAAD system, which is made by US defense contractor Lockheed Martin, went operational in early May at a location about 130 miles south of Seoul.

President Trump honors the fallen, their families
He also praised Bob Dole , the former senator who suffered lifelong injuries in World War II and attended the ceremony. Trump said, calling those who have served in the military "special, special people".

"The focus of the issue of THAAD deployment, is that there was a lack of public discussion that included the right of the people to know", said ministry spokesman Cho Jun-hyuk.

The South agreed past year to deploy the missile interceptor system to guard against threats from nuclear-armed North Korea, despite angry opposition from China, which believes THAAD could undermine its own military capability.

On North Korea, Durbin said that sanctions and pressure are the most effective way to discourage Pyongyang from seeking nuclear and missile programs.

Industry watchers, however, expressed concerns that along with geopolitical and security concerns, the Moon administration must resolve tension growing over the trade sector with Trump adding pressure to rewrite a bilateral free trade deal. Second, military confrontation, which we should take every measure to avoid. "(But) as of yet, I haven't seen any indication that China is taking a more aggressive approach".
