SpaceX successfully launches reused Falcon 9 rocket, recovers first stage

BulgariaSat-1 is a communications satellite that will be located over Bulgaria in a geostationary orbital position and will provide television and data communications services to homes in that region of eastern Europe. Today was another success after the separation, as Falcon 9's successfully landed on the "Of Course I Still Love You" droneship, stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.

The launch is scheduled to happen anytime between 3:10 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET.

On Sunday, SpaceX completes the second part of the double-header when it launches a second rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

SpaceX is attempting to be the first to both launch and land two different rockets within a 48-hour window.

BulgariaSat-1, which was built for the eastern European country by California-based SSL, is created to provide direct-to-home television and data communications services over an area centered in the Balkans and stretching from western Europe to the Middle East, North Africa and the Caucasus. The first launch will be at Kennedy Space Center in Florida and the second will be from California.

Understanding Congressional Confusion on Health Care

The launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida was delayed nearly a week so SpaceX could replace a valve.

After previously revealing that this recovery would be the most trying attempt yet for the Falcon 9's first stage, Musk has now confirmed what most of fans already surmised from the live coverage. This will mark the second time ever that a used booster is reused to launch a payload. And as costs come down, more companies gain access to the growing commercial space industry. It's the 12th time SpaceX has successfully landed one of these rocket stages, and the seventh time it's performed the feat at sea.

Prior to the launch, he warned that it might not make it back for landing. SpaceX had a successful test firing of the SpaceX Falcon that will be carrying those Iridium satellites earlier this week. The rocket will launch from pad 39A, the same launch pad at NASA where numerous Apollo Missions launches from.
