Twitter users, blocked by Trump, cry censorship

A prominent First Amendment advocacy institute at Columbia University is threatening to sue President Donald Trump unless he stops blocking people on Twitter. That's because when a user is blocked on Twitter, they can no longer see a user's account, or comment on tweets the user has made.

"While [the letter] relates to our most prominent Twitter user, the principles we seek to vindicate apply to all public officials and public entities that use social media to conduct government business and allow the public to participate", Katie Fallow, senior attorney at the Knight First Amendment Institute, told CNN Tech. I think it's destructive in two ways: first, he tends to be insulting on Twitter and insulting people doesn't buy you support - it may not lose you your core supporters, but it's eroding a lot of support from people who voted for you. and I also think he's distracting.

“This is not a Twitter account dedicated to personal interests and family affairs, ” Adbo said.

"When the government makes a space available to the public at large for the goal of expressive activity, it creates a public forum from which it may not constitutionally exclude individuals on the basis of viewpoint", the letter reads.

No Vote on State Budget on Last Day of Legislative Session
House Bill 1316 includes a program called the College Affordability Grant, which would give IL residents a yearly grant of $4,000. You have a permanent increase in the income tax and (this is) two years? It's unclear whether Rauner will sign the bill.

"People, the lawyers and the courts can call it whatever they want, but I am calling it what we need and what it is, a TRAVEL BAN!" he wrote in a series of tweets.

Trump tweets from two different accounts.

The foundation's letter specifically mentions Trump's personal twitter account, @realDonaldTrump, which now has 38.1 million followers. The president also inherited the @potus account from President Obama.

Looking toward the 2018 midterms, 48 percent of voters said Trump's Twitter usage will hurt the changes of Congressional Republicans, while 35 percent said the messages will give Democrats a boost. That one is, as it points out in its bio, subject to federal record-retention laws and is an official government communication voice, so the boundaries and obligations around it seem more clear.

Spicer won't say whether Trump has confidence in Sessions
She'll say anything, absolutely anything, no matter how utterly idiotic it is, as long as it purports to defend Trump. The president reportedly blamed Sessions' recusal for the broadening of the Russian Federation investigation.

There are very different set of standards for public and private individuals so even if this goes to court and the court agrees with the Knight Foundation, this would only be about government officials, she said. In a fully public forum, opposing views can't be censored.

You've probably already heard people sigh over Trump's unprecedented use of Twitter.

Millennials to President Donald Trump: Stop Tweeting!

One of the Twitter users the letter said Trump had blocked is Holly O'Reilly, whose account is @AynRandPaulRyan. "That is the forum that is created by each of the tweets about his policies". Spicer's confirmation comes just one day after Kellyanne Conway criticized the media's "obsession" with the president's tweets. If Trump does not unblock OReilly and Papp, however, “we will very seriously consider litigation, ” Abdo said.
