Facebook drops price of its VR hardware again

Facebook-owned (NASDAQ:FB) VR company Oculus will cut prices for its headsets and controllers for a limited time to attract more customers to a fledgling industry. Which, is incredibly cheap when you consider that the more mass market PlayStation VR now retails for $549.95.

While it has only been a few months since Oculus dropped the price of the same bundle down to U.S. $598, Oculus has chose to make another, limited time, price drop.

The headset and controller bundle has dropped from $599 to $399 for an unspecified "limited time". Given the number of titles available on Oculus Rift, the new deal represents a good way to build a consumer base, as the hardware demands dropped thanks to more powerful GPUs being available at rock bottom prices. Their decided price matches the Sony Corporation made PlayStation VR which is another virtual reality game.

Team India head coach: Top six contenders to replace Anil Kumble
There is no hurry at the moment. "We shouldn't be seeing again six months down the line doing something different", he added. The two front-runners for the post were former India captain Ravi Shastri and former India opening batsman Virender Sehwag.

The aggressive price strategy could be a sign that Oculus wants to kickstart sales for the Rift.

Over on the official Oculus Website you can pick up a Rift for only $399.99.

According to IDC, about 23M VR and AR headsets shipped in Q1 with VR accounting for 98% of that total. For the quarter, the headset was bested by companies including Samsung, PlayStation and HTC. You'll also need a relatively beefy PC, with Oculus recommending either a NVIDIA GTX 1060 or a Radeon RX 480 or better.

Illinois House Approves Tax Hike And Budget, Rauner Promises Veto
In a statement issued after the veto was overridden, Rauner said lawmakers "failed taxpayers" with their vote. The bill passed the House with a veto-proof majority, including some Republican votes.

That seems to be the strategy at Facebook Inc., which said it would temporarily cut $200 from the $600 price of its Oculus Rift virtual reality goggles plus a related accessory.

However, the platform has remained a long-game investment for both Facebook and Oculus.

"It doesn't appear the (initial) Rift price drop has made a big difference, but the first half of the year tends to be pretty slow in gaming at least", says Lewis Ward, IDC's research director, for gaming and VR/AR.
