Panama Papers case: JIT submits final report before SC

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) constituted by Pakistan's Supreme Court to probe into corruption allegations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's family handed over its reports to the court on Monday.

Last year, the Panama Papers revealed that three of Prime Minister Sharif's children owned offshore companies and assets not shown on his family's wealth statement.

Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms and senior PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal on Monday termed the Joint Investigation Team's (JIT) final report as garbage and said the ruling party rejects it.

With the Supreme Court now taking up the case once more, Sharif's political career hangs in the balance.

U.S. economy adds 222000 jobs in June
But most economists have forecast that growth rebounded in the April-June quarter to an annual rate of 2.5 percent or higher. Employment growth has averaged 180,000 per month so far this year, in line with the average monthly gain of 187,000 in 2016.

The case hinges on two parallel money trails for the Park Lane apartments: one based on the Rehman Malik investigation, and the other provided by Hussain Nawaz to the apex court. The Supreme Court has also ordered a contempt of court notice for Jang Group.

The JIT was working on the instructions of the Apex Court as it had directed the investigation team to look into the family belongings of Sharif.

"The financial structure and health of the companies in Pakistan having linkages to the Respondents also do not substantiate the wealth of Respondents", added the document. After accepting the JIT report, the Highest Court of Pakistan has ordered a FIR against Zafar Hijazi, for meddling records of the business of Sharif family.

The report alleged that there was "irregular movement of huge amounts in shape of loans and gifts" to Sharif's family and Pakistan Based companies from the companies based in Saudi Arabia, UAE and the UK.

The six-member JIT headed by Wajid Zia submitted the report consisting of 10 volumes.

However, PML-N leaders continue to claim innocence about the involvement of Sharif and his family members.

The bench has summoned the transcript of the speeches of Railways Minister Saad Rafiq, Senator Nihal Hashmi and Asif Karmani regarding the conduct of JIT.

The JIT questioned Sharif family including the Prime Minister, his younger brother and Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, sons Hassan and Hussain, daughter Maryam, son-in-law Captain Safdar, cousin Tariq Shafi and close relative Ishaq Dar.
