Taliban chief's son among bombers killed in Afghanistan

The strike occurred Friday afternoon in Gereshk district in Helmand, large parts of which are under Taliban control.

Safi told The Associated Press the dead were police officers who were operating with the army in the area.

Abdul Rahman, son of Mullah Haibatullah, was one of the insurgents who carried out three auto bomb attacks in Geresk district and launched coordinated attacks on the Afghan forces which prompted the USA air support and security reinforcements, reports Efe news.

Omar Zwak, a spokesman for Helmand's governor, also confirmed the aerial strike and gave the same account.

US Fines Exxon For Violating Russia Sanctions Under Tillerson
State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters on Thursday that the agency was alerted to the fine on Wednesday. By dealing with Sechin, the company "caused significant harm" to USA sanctions on Russian Federation , the Treasury said.

Grishk police chief, Mohammad Ismail Khpalwak, said over ten members of the police force were killed in the strike.

Death tolls still aren't totally finalized, but Helmand Governor Hayatullah Hayat confirmed that two top police commanders were among the slain.

A statement put out by the USA military said they were "local security personnel aligned with Afghan government forces", suggesting they may have been local militia forces.

The incident came less than a week after Afghan officials praised US air support for boosting morale among local forces battling to reclaim territory from the Taliban in Helmand.

Teen arrested after five acid attacks in London in 90 minutes
According to Clark, all five victims were riding mopeds at the time of the attacks, but they come from a "variety of backgrounds". Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said acid attacks were on the rise, though they still remained rare.

More than a dozen Afghan police officers have been killed after they were mistakenly targeted by a USA airstrike. Taliban have in the past exaggerated their successes and the remoteness of the area makes it near impossible to independently verify.

Local officials said 20 more officers are missing and that it wasn't clear if they had been kidnapped or if they had escaped.

Khpolwak says the buses were travelling from Kandahar's Shah Wali Kot District to neighboring Uruzgan province when they came under attack. As of June 30, USA and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation aircraft had dropped more than 1,600 munitions in Afghanistan this year, according to Air Forces Central Command data.
