Facebook's "Watch" Streaming Service Launched

Dubbed "Watch", the collection of videos will be available on mobile, desktop, and laptop, with live and recorded episodic shows that follow a particular theme or storyline.

Watch will be customised according to what users, their friends and the communities they're part of are consuming, Facebook says - but will also feature sections such as "Most Talked About" and "What's Making People Laugh" to help steer users to shows they might like.

While people watch a lot of videos on Facebook, these are mostly shared by their friends, seen as users scroll down their main news feed. Similarly, it will be opening up Shows to a limited group of creators and plan to roll out to all soon.

It's a potential threat to Twitter, YouTube, Netflix and other services for watching video, including old-fashioned TV.
