Oxford University employee and United States professor charged with Chicago murder

Authorities have said the attack on Cornell-Duranleau, a MI native who moved to Chicago previous year, was so brutal that the blade of the knife investigators believe was used in the stabbing was broken.

An Illinois prosecutor shared disturbing new details about the July 27 slaying, describing to the court how Trenton James Cornell-Duranleau, the 26-year-old boyfriend of since-fired microbiology professor Wyndham Lathem, was stabbed 70 times at Lathem's Chicago condo and with such brutality that he was almost decapitated.

An Oxford University worker has been charged with murder after a man's body was discovered in an apartment with more than 40 stab wounds.

Lathem is a former researcher at Washington University in St. Louis.

Investigators say Lathem had a personal relationship with Cornell-Duranleau.

Investigators say Lathem, who was sacked after the killing, had a personal relationship with Cornell-Duranleau.

Woman's Lost Engagement Ring Found 13 Years Later
It was only after she got home and started washing the carrots that she and her husband realized what they had unearthed. Grams's daughter-in-law was gathering vegetables in the same garden when she came across this little guy.

Witnesses say they heard what sounded like a fight at 5 a.m., according to Deenihan. Warren, 56, also turned himself in to authorities. The autopsy also found that the victim was stabbed 47 times.

Both Lathem and Warren surrendered to authorities in California on August 4.

The case took freaky turns as authorities revealed Latham donated $1,000 to a Wisconsin library in the dead man's name and sent an apology video to friends and family.

He plans to plead not guilty, according to his lawyer.

"What I can tell you, it was not domestic in nature - like a husband/wife or boyfriend/boyfriend or love triangle". "It was a little bit more dark and disturbing, as far as I'm concerned".

Cornell-Duranleau went to sleep in Lathem's apartment, at which point Lathem texted Warren that it was time to kill Cornell-Duranleau, prosecutors said.

When the victim's body was moved, he appeared to have been almost decapitated, prosecutors said, and he had sustained multiple wounds that would have been mortal in and of themselves.

According to his obituary, Cornell-Duranleau was raised in Corunna, west of Flint.

A post-mortem examination found the victim, originally from Corunna, Michigan, had methamphetamines in his system.

The two were on the run for eight days- making a 2,100-mile journey across country before turning themselves into police and U.S. Marshals earlier this month in California's Bay Area.

But in reality, Trenton James Cornell-Duranleau, 26, was the only one to die.

Prior to the arrests, Lathem sent a video to his friends and family in which he talks about the biggest mistake of his life, a high-level source at the Chicago Police Department told CNN. Detectives were questioning the men Saturday.
