Suspected terror attack in Finland leaves several injured with stab wounds

A suspect is in custody and being treated in hospital after officers shot him.

Police have refused to comment on whether the stabbing may have been terrorism-related.

A witness told Reuters she had seen a man stabbing a woman and other people sobbing at what they had seen after running away in terror. The stabbing happened at around 1245 GMT in the city's Elberfeld area.

The Associated Press reported that the Turku attacker was shot in the leg.

The suspect is now being treated in hospital.

It was only after she got home and started washing the carrots that she and her husband realized what they had unearthed. Grams's daughter-in-law was gathering vegetables in the same garden when she came across this little guy.

Out of eight people injured in the incident, two have since died, the Central Bureau of Investigations said. "The rest are in stable condition", Turku University Hospital director Petri Virolainen earlier told AFP.

Authorities are looking for more potential suspects. Shouting is heard in the background.

Finnish media published photographs of the attack site, and one showed a body covered with a white sheet.

The probe is now focusing on determining the motive of the attacker, with police anxious to question him once his medical condition improves.

Security will be reinforced nationwide after the stabbing. The Finnish Security Intelligence Service says the country's "stronger profile within the radical Islamist propaganda" led to the change.

The Nice carnage and other assaults including the 2015 shootings and bombings on Paris nightspots were claimed by the Islamic State, but it is believed to be the first Islamic States claim of an attack in Spain. At least one remains at large. However, it was later reported that the man was likely a lone attacker. The suspect was immediately arrested.

Interior Minister Paula Risikko, who was also present in Turku, said police would be more visible in public places, and their level of alert had been raised.

The government has grown more concerned about attacks, partly since an Uzbek man killed four people in neighbouring Sweden in April by driving a hijacked truck into crowd in central Stockholm.
