Trump says Mexico will pay for the wall ''one way or another''

Donald Trump once again fired off an aggressive Tweet calling on Mexico to pay for "THE WALL" this week - but the country's Foreign Ministry had a cool, dignified response.

Trump has argued that he will get Mexico to pay back the money for building the wall, but that it is vital construction not wait for this to happen.

"It may be through reimbursement", he said.

The statement was a direct response to a sweeping series of tweets by President Donald Trump on August 27, in which he touched on NAFTA, the border wall and the Missouri Senate campaign amid updates on tropical storm Harvey off the southeast coast of Texas.

President Trump also called out Mexico for the country's cartel violence and claimed that the government will eventually pay for the promised border wall.

The president said that "we are both in a little bit of a political bind" but that he knew the funding would work out "somehow" and "come out in the wash".

"CBS adds that Trump vowed not to meet with Mexican officials if they did not agree to fund the border wall, because he could not "live with that".

He said Mexico "is being reluctant" to pay because the nation has "had one of the sweetest deals for years".

The foreign ministry said the battle against illicit drug trade can most effectively be fought "only on the basis of the principles of shared responsibility, teamwork, and mutual trust will we be able to overcome this challenge".

Trump said at a rally last week in Phoenix that he would "end up probably terminating" NAFTA "at some point". The statement said Mexico was "serious and constructive" in the talks and sought a winning result for all involved, but that in any case it "will not negotiate NAFTA nor any other aspect of the bilateral relationship through social media or the media".

The Foreign Ministry's statement left out the fact that the USA has relied heavily on Mexican aid in the recent past.
