Federation Internationale de Football Association set to relax ban on war dead commemorations at games

Fifa deemed the poppy to be a "political symbol" - something their rules have forbidden - but, having held talks with the football associations of each United Kingdom nation, are expected to pass a new law on the matter in time for the global fixtures which are scheduled to take place between November 6 and 14.

England and Spurs striker Harry Kane, 23, also spoke out and said Three Lions stars were proud to wear the symbolic flowers to honour our war heroes Federation Internationale de Football Association have now finally backtracked over their ban on the poppy and agreed an amendment to the game's rules.

The holding of a minute's silence, the laying of a wreath and a poppy display by fans before Northern Ireland's 4-0 win over Azerbaijan the previous day led to a £11,770 fine for the Irish FA.

The ban lift comes a year after Federation Internationale de Football Association fined England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for using the poppy to commemorate Armistice Day.

If England seal qualification for next summer's World Cup in their next two games in early October, they are set to play Germany in a friendly at Wembley in November and it is understood they have already been given permission by the German FA to wear poppies.

The new rule will reportedly go through ahead of England's upcoming friendly against Germany, which will be played on November 10.

The outcome means that players may now wear poppies providing their opponents have approved it and they have informed the match organisers.
