Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik arrested by NIA

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik while placed heads of both Hurriyats under house detention.

He was the arrested from his residence in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir in May this year.

The Joint Resistance Leadership constituting Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had told media Wednesday that they would participate in the march and court arrest to protest the "harassment" of the resistance leaders by the investigation agency.

The NIA has arrested seven persons in the case of alleged funding of terror and subversive activities in the Kashmir Valley to fuel unrest there.

According to NIA sources, similar raids were going on at 12 places in the valley.

The NIA raided senior Hurriyat-G leader and prominent Shia cleric Aga Syed Hassan's residence in Budgam.

The arrest of Malik and the Mirwaiz's house arrest came a day after the separatist leaders announced they would go to New Delhi to court arrest before the agency headquarters on September 9 in protest against the anti-terror agency's crackdown in the Valley.

"During searches, FDs worth over Rs 1 crore, incriminating material, suspect financial records, property-related documents and electronic devices have been seized", he said adding the suspects were questioned about the incriminating recoveries made from them.

Authorities also placed Mirwaiz Umer Farooq under house arrest in his Nigeen residence on the city outskirts.

Mr. Malik was shifted to the Central Jail, Srinagar.

NIA investigated the whole matter as a case registered on May 30 in which the leader of the Pakistan-based Jamaat-ud-Dawa and banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed, was named as an accused.

On Friday a photo journalist from south Kashmir was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on the charge that he was involved in incidents of "stone pelting".
