Mexico natural disaster death toll climbs to 90

The death toll from the massive quake that rocked southern Mexico has risen to at least 90, with most of the fatalities occurring in Oaxaca State.

"It's 71 (dead). Just for Oaxaca", said Jesus Gonzalez, a spokesman for the state civil protection authority, told Reuters. But they warned that those figures remain preliminary.

At least 90 people died when the 8.1-magnitude quake struck about 50 miles off the Pacific coast shortly before midnight on Thursday.

The quake was also felt further north in Mexico City, where the National Football League has staged two regular season games, including one a year ago, and where the Patriots are set to take on the Raiders in November.
