Charges filed in Mueller investigation into Russian meddling

The first charges have been filed in the ongoing special counsel investigation into possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, CNN is reporting.

CNN first reported the approved charges Friday (Oct. 27) night.

At the time of Mueller's appointment, the White House issued a statement in which Trump said: "As I have stated many times, a thorough investigation will confirm what we already know - there was no collusion between my campaign and any foreign entity". Targets of his investigation include former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, among others.

The special counsel's office declined to comment on Friday, CNN reported. Rosenstein made the decision to appoint Mueller because Attorney General Jeff Sessions had recused himself from any probe in the Russian Federation investigation.

Mueller's investigation also includes an effort to determine whether Trump or any of his aides tried to obstruct justice.

Earlier this week, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the White House believes Mueller's probe is "getting closer to conclusion".

All Wi-Fi at Risk from Krack Attack
The Wi-Fi Alliance, an industry group which sets standards for wireless connections, said computer users should not panic. Customers who have Windows Update enabled and who applied the latest security updates are protected automatically.

The Justice Department tapped Mueller, a former director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to head the probe in May. Donald Trump, Jr., oldest son of the president, also attended the meeting.

Republican lawmakers earlier this week launched investigations to examine several of Trump's longstanding political grievances, including the FBI probe of Hillary Clinton's emails and her alleged role in a sale of USA uranium to a Russian firm.

Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russian Federation investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
