Malaysia in deal with USA firm to restart MH370 search

ABC News in a report today stated that the next-of-kin have been notified that the Malaysian government has granted permission to the MH370 response team to begin negotiating terms with Ocean Infinity.

― Reuters picKUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 ― The government is still negotiating terms with the private U.S. contractor reportedly chosen to lead a new search effort for missing flight MH370, the Department of Civil Aviation said today.

They had been pressing the government to accept Ocean Infinity's offer to find answers to one of aviation's biggest mysteries.

However late past year the Minister for Infrastructure, Darren Chester, said any resumption of the search required precise identification of the final resting place of the wreckage.

Ocean Infinity, a seabed exploration outfit has reportedly offered to search for MH370 on a "no-find, no-fee" basis'.

"We wish to also inform that at this juncture, the Malaysian Government has yet to arrive into an agreement with Ocean Infinity for the search of MH370 as widely reported in the media recently".

In January 2017, the search for MH370 was jointly suspended by the three countries, upon finding no traces of the plane after nearly three years. Those searchers identified a smaller area of about 10,000 square miles they said had "a high probability" as the site of the aircraft.

Delivering its report into the disappearance earlier this month, Australia's Transport Safety Bureau said it was "almost inconceivable" that the aircraft had not been found.
