Terrorists Strikes Shiite shrine in Pakistan's Balochistan, Killing 20

At least 13 people were killed and eight injured in a suicide blast at a shrine in Balochistan's Jhal Magsi area, local officials said on Thursday.

In a similar incident in Khazdar district of Balochistan, at least 52 people were killed and more than 100 others were wounded past year.

District Police Officer Jhal Magsi Mohammad Iqbal has confirmed that it was a suicide blast, the bomber had tried to enter the shrine but a security guard stopped him, after which the attacker detonated the explosives.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Anwarul Haq Kakar, spokesman for the provincial government, said the death toll could rise as some of the wounded were in a critical condition.

Sarfraz Bugto, the provincial home minister, said "terrorists have shown their inhumaneness by attacking innocent civilians".

The shrine is located four kilometres away from the city and the nearest hospital in the area can only accommodate 12 people, so the rescue teams are shifting the injured people to hospital in neighbouring districts.

A suicide bomber killed 52 people and wounded over 100 at a Baluchistan Sufi shrine in November previous year, in an attack claimed by Islamic State.

The explosion, which police attributed to a suicide bomber, took place at the entrance to the dargah at a time when scores of people had gathered to pay their respects.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the attack.

He also said that his government will act against the perpetrators with full force.

Dr Rukhsana Magsi at the Gandawah hospital in Jhal Magsi, about 400 kms east of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province, confirmed 15 bodies were brought to the hospital.
