Trump Chief of Staff John Kelly Declares He's 'Not Quitting Today'

"Trump in recent days has shown flashes of fury and left his aides, including White House chief of staff John F. Kelly, scrambling to manage his outbursts".

Kelly also dismissed speculation that he might resign soon due to conflicts with Trump, saying that he had just talked to the president and did not think he would be fired. That was the best job I ever had. I will tell you, this is the hardest job I've ever had.

"Unless things change, I'm not quitting, I'm not getting fired".

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly walks with Kirstjen Nielsen, then chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, on August 22.

U.S. unveils proposal to boost autos content in NAFTA
The administration reportedly proposed the clause in the fourth of seven scheduled rounds of discussions earlier this week. President Trump is a vocal critic of the trade agreement, and has threatened to withdraw from it unless changes are made.

Kelly spoke to reporters a day after Trump threatened to revoke NBC's broadcast license.

GENERAL KELLY: All of you. "I was not sent in to or brought in to control him. you should not measure my effectiveness as chief of staff by what you think I should be doing". Kelly appeared confident, energized, and fully engaged with the task of executing President Trump's agend-no, kidding, he looked like a man wishing he could plummet through a trap door hidden beneath his feet and reemerge somewhere in the world where, by the grace of God, he would never have to hear the word "tweet" again. Of course sources who provide details that the White House would rather not get out there can't have their names attached to those details, because they would immediately be fired.

This is really, really hard work, running the United States of America, I don't run it, but i'm working for someone who is dedicated to serving the country in the way he's talked about for a number of years.

"You said you're not so frustrated that you're thinking of leaving, but are you frustrated?" a reporter asked. All of you. Not all of you, but many of you.

"It's astounding to me how much is misreported". I would offer, though, it is not the best job I've ever had.

Congress has also been frustrating to the president, Kelly added. "This is, in my view, the most important job I ever had".

This seems unlikely. In August, Trump claimed on Twitter to have ordered the modernization of the US nuclear arsenal on his first day in office, stating that the current stockpile "is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before". Kelly said Americans should be "concerned" about North Korea since it has developed an intercontinental ballistic missile capability and is developing a vehicle that would allow a missile to survive re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. He has been frustrated in particular with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who was reported last week to have earlier called the president a 'moron.'.
