Two-thirds of U.S. baby food tested positive for arsenic, risky toxins

The Clean Label Project's mission is for the baby industry to become more transparent in their labels. It might be frightening to read that "nearly 80% of baby formula samples tested positive for arsenic", but without knowing the levels of arsenic, it is impossible to determine if the amount in baby formula is unsafe.

The study also found 36 percent of baby food products tested had detectable levels of lead, 58 percent had detectable levels of cadmium and 10 percent had detectable levels of acrylamides.

That said, there have been other studies that found levels of contaminates in baby food were higher than those in food made for adults, and that is a little worrisome.

Tejas passengers fall sick after breakfast, hospitalised
The report by a Central Railways team said the quality of the food served on-board the premium train was "satisfactory". The train was stopped at the Chiplun station where all the affected 26 passengers were admitted to a local hospital.

The Clean Label Project is a Denver, Colorado-based organization committed to looking beyond the label and marketing terms to give consumers information they need to select products that contain the fewest poisons and food additives.

According to the Clean Label Project, a nonprofit that advocates for product labeling transparency, a five-month study into hundreds of baby foods, formulas, and snacks has found that the vast majority contain some level of poisonous materials like arsenic or lead.

According to CBS contributors, more than one third of the tested products had lead in them. However, we don't know how much was found in any product, because while The Clean Label Project has ranked the products in an infographic on its site, the organization has not released any specific data.

Arsenic in rice cereals is not surprising.

Dr. Ayoob, who also specializes in child nutrition in his own clinic, also shared his skepticism of the recent study, claiming that the organization's refusal to add context to their numbers "borders on irresponsible". In 2016, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration proposed a limit of 100 parts per billion of arsenic in infant rice cereal, but not enforcing that limit. Due to this babies can also develop abnormalities at the later stage of life. On the other hand, specific products from Peaceful Planet Toddler, Abbott EleCare, Happy Tot, Comforts For Toddler were at the bottom of the list. "Baby food and formula on the market by well-respected companies have a history of being both safe and nourishing". Even 60% of the "BPA free" products were contaminated with bisphenol A, another harmful industrial chemical.
