170 firefighters battle fire in 6-story apartment building

One person is said to be missing, according to an FDNY chief, after a massive fire broke out Friday at a Hamilton Heights building - a six-alarm fire that was not under control until Saturday morning.

The fire started in a small corner apartment on the top floor of the building before spreading across the entire top floor, DailyMail.com was told on the scene.

The Fire Department of NY says 170 firefighters are at the scene.

Two people have reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The fire appears to have engulfed almost the whole building and smoke can be seen high above the blaze.

Resident Mannaesh Carter was at a store downstairs in the building when he smelled smoke.

The building is both residential and retail. He then ran upstairs and went door-to-door to warn his neighbors. It is not clear yet how many people have been displaced.

Crews are now fighting the flames from ladders and rooftops of adjacent buildings, but the fire is still strong, and is continuing to spread through 42 neighboring units.

The cause of the fire is unknown but attacked the top of the apartment block. Another nearby building was also evacuated.

A video below provided by ABC 7 News shows exactly how monstrous this fire was in Hamilton Heights, a neighborhood in Upper Manhattan.
