Number 10 DID Know About Priti Patel's Israel Meetings, Journalist Reveals

The UK's worldwide development secretary, Priti Patel, has resigned after it was revealed she held secret meetings with Israeli officials during what she said was a family holiday to Israel.

Patel failed to tell either May or the U.K. Foreign Office that she would be having 12 meetings with officials including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a 13-day holiday in Israel in August.

On Monday, Patel had apologised for failing to disclose meetings with senior Israeli officials during a private holiday.

"While my actions were meant with the best of intentions, my actions also fell below the standards of transparency and openness that I have promoted and advocated".

"I offer a fulsome apology to you and to the Government for what has happened and offer my resignation", Patel said in a letter.

When were you made aware that Priti Patel had met officials from the British Consulate General Jerusalem during her visit to Israel?

She then held two additional meetings, one in the United Kingdom and one in the USA, following her return from Israel.

Later that month, she also met with Yuval Rotem in NY, an official from the Israeli foreign ministry.

Patel then met an Israeli foreign office minister in NY on September 18. "I am sorry for this and I apologise for it".

The new details raise further questions about just what Number 10 knew about Ms Patel's meetings and when.

The statement added that the Foreign Office was aware of the visit while it was underway, but was not informed about it in advance.

And now she has had to deal with a cabinet minister who appears to have held talks with more than a dozen Israeli officials in off-the-books meetings while allegedly on vacation.

Local media this week reported comments from a Downing Street spokesman who said Patel had discussed the possibility of using British taxpayers' money to support a hospital run by the Israeli military in the Golan Heights for Syrian refugees.

Priti Patel is flying home from a trip to Africa.

Patel is the second cabinet minister to quit May's government a week after Michael Fallon resigned as defence secretary over allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior on November 1.

Ms Osamor showed she was less than happy about that, telling MPs: "It is hard to think of a more black and white case of breaking the ministerial code of conduct but rather than change the minister, the prime minister somehow decided last night that it is the ministerial code itself that needs changing".

Stephen Pollard wrote in the Jewish Chronicle that an aide at Number 10 had told Ms Patel not to include the meeting in her update on Monday to avoid embarrassing the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Labour has already demanded an investigation by the Prime Minister's standards adviser into Ms Patel's meetings with the Israeli government, claiming they involved four "serious breaches" of the ministerial code.
