Zimbabwe Ruling Party Calls Military Chief's Comments Treasonous

Zimbabwe's ruling party has accused the head of the armed forces of treason as military tanks drove through the outskirts of the capital of Harare.

Mnangagwa had always been tipped as Mugabe's most likely successor but has in recent months increasingly come into conflict with first lady Grace Mugabe, who is vying to replace the 93-year-old president.

Zimbabwe's top military general on Monday called for an immediate end to purges against former liberation war fighters in President Robert Mugabe's ruling party, after Emmerson Mnangagwa was stripped of his vice president's post.

Both Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's famous "blue house" and the Zimbabwean Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has been sealed off by heavily armed military personnel, Khuluma Afrika is reporting.

Texas church shooting: 'Multiple deaths' and gunman killed, say police
Police say there are "multiple victims ", but an exact number of injured or dead was not immediately available. Photos and video from the scene showed the area taped off by local law enforcement.

The party said his comments were "clearly calculated to disturb national peace..."

ZANU PF Youth League leader, Kudzai Chipanga, in a statement said Chiwenga together with Mnangagwa must account for the missing money as they presided over revenue from the country's diamonds.

On Tuesday, several armoured vehicles spotted outside Harare alarmed many residents as Chiwenga had warned of possible military intervention.

Zimbabwe was plunged into crisis when Mr Mugabe sacked Mr Mnangagwa, a 75-year-old veteran of Zimbabwe's liberation wars, last week.

"I saw a long convoy of military vehicles", a female fruit seller about 10 kilometres (six miles) from central Harare, told AFP, while other witnesses took to social media to confirm the reports.

The 25-year-old made his Premier League debut for Spurs at Wembley on Sunday and produced a number of fine saves to seal the three points.

Mugabe is yet to respond to Chiwenga's coup threats.

"We must remind those behind the current treacherous shenanigans that, when it comes to matters of protecting our revolution, the military will not hesitate to step in".

Mnangagwa was subsequently fired from the party and has since left the country.

Addressing a press conference in the capital, Chiwenga, a perceived Mnangagwa loyalist, said the purges must stop.

Mugabe has broken with most of his allies who fought in the liberation war against the white-minority regime of Rhodesia, leaving the so-called Generation-40 faction of younger members of the ruling party championed by his wife, Grace Mugabe, 52, in the ascendancy.
